An Invitation to Toronto: MLB Style

As we continue building The Training Camp HQ, we are always looking for opportunities to learn from the best in the game.

Earlier this year we received an invitation to travel to Toronto, Canada to visit the headquarters of a baseball technology company and experience an exclusive MLB training technology that we are considering bringing to The Training Camp HQ.

This technology allows hitters to practice against real pitchers by loading their exact data into the system, including height, release point, velocity, and spin rate. In other words, athletes can train against the same pitching profiles they would see in real games.

Right now this level of technology is primarily used by Major League Baseball organizations and select Division I college programs, which made the visit an incredible opportunity for us to see it firsthand.

Josh, one of the founders of The Training Camp HQ and a former Division I pitcher drafted by the Chicago Cubs, even stepped in to take a few swings. He was lucky enough to record a few hits off simulated pitchers Yasavage and Yokomoto, which made the experience even more fun.

Of course, whenever we travel for baseball we also try to experience the city!

We stayed at The Drake Hotel in Toronto’s West Queen West neighborhood and visited the CN Tower, one of the most recognizable landmarks in Canada and once the tallest free standing structure in the world at over 1,800 feet tall. We had dinner at the top while taking in incredible views of the city and Lake Ontario.

We also had breakfast near Rogers Centre, home of the Toronto Blue Jays, where we could actually see into the stadium while crews were working on renovations. And just to make the trip even more memorable, Toronto welcomed us with ten inches of snow during our visit!

Between exploring the city and experiencing some of the most advanced baseball training technology in the game, the trip gave us even more inspiration for what The Training Camp HQ can become.

Every experience like this helps shape the vision for bringing a next level baseball training environment to the Charlotte baseball community.
