Baseball Inspiration from Japan: A Training Camp HQ Trip to Osaka

In November we traveled to Japan to visit Brittany’s brother and his family. He is a graphic designer who focuses on branding and the person who designed The Training Camp HQ logo. They live in Japan and were the most gracious tour guides during our visit.

Like most of our trips, we found a way to work baseball into the itinerary! What followed turned into another great baseball experience and a chance to gather inspiration for what we are building with The Training Camp HQ.

One of the highlights was visiting Osaka Stadium, home of the Hanshin Tigers. Inside the stadium we explored the team museum and discovered virtual batting cages with technology similar to what we plan to use at The Training Camp HQ.

We were also able to see areas most fans never experience. We stood on the field, stepped into the dugout, and saw where the players take batting practice.

Later we visited Umeda Batting Cages in Osaka, a traditional batting cage facility in the heart of the city. The experience was packed with baseball technology and automation, but what stood out most was how simple and fun the experience felt for players of all levels.

Japanese baseball culture is unbelievably enthusiastic and passionate about the game. We wished we could have been there for a Hanshin Tigers game, but that just means we will have to plan another trip back. Of course we did not leave empty handed and came home with a few baseball souvenirs.

Trips like this remind us that great baseball environments exist all over the world, and inspiration for what we are building in Charlotte can come from anywhere.

If Japanese baseball culture taught us anything, it is that the energy and love for the game can make a training space feel special, and that is exactly the kind of environment we hope to build at The Training Camp HQ.
